What is Pure Marula Oil?
A 100% cold-pressed, single-origin face oil extracted from wild-grown biodynamic Marula trees in the heart of South Africa. Unrefined, responsibly harvested, and bottled without additives — it is Marula in its most potent, nutrient-dense form. Not all Marula Oil is equal. Origin, extraction method, and tree provenance determine everything about efficacy.
What makes South African wild-grown Marula Oil different?
African Botanics works exclusively with suppliers who source from wild-growing biodynamic Marula trees in South Africa — not cultivated crops. Wild-grown trees produce oil with a significantly higher concentration of antioxidants, essential fatty acids, and Oleic Acid than farmed alternatives. The cold-pressing process preserves every nutrient intact. Single-origin, responsibly sourced, and traceable from tree to bottle.
What does Pure Marula Oil do for skin?
It penetrates deep into the dermis to nourish, repair, and protect. The high Oleic Acid content restores the skin's natural lipid barrier, locking in moisture and defending against dryness. Vitamin E and antioxidant compounds neutralize free radicals to visibly reduce fine lines and prevent premature aging. Skin is left luminous, petal-soft, and visibly renewed.
Is Marula Oil good for sensitive skin?
It is one of the most effective oils for sensitive, reactive, and environmentally stressed skin. The anti-inflammatory fatty acid profile soothes redness and calms reactivity without disrupting the barrier. Its lightest-in-category molecular weight means it absorbs rapidly and completely — no residue, no congestion, no irritation.
Is Pure Marula Oil non-comedogenic — will it clog pores?
Yes — Pure Marula Oil is non-comedogenic. Despite its deeply nourishing profile, it does not block pores or contribute to congestion. The lightweight molecular structure absorbs fully into skin rather than sitting on the surface. Suitable for all skin types including oily and acne-prone skin.
What is the Oleic Acid content of Marula Oil and why does it matter?
Marula Oil contains approximately 70–78% Oleic Acid — one of the highest concentrations of any botanical face oil. Oleic Acid is an Omega 9 fatty acid that mirrors the skin's own lipid composition, which is why it absorbs so rapidly and penetrates so deeply. It actively rebuilds the skin barrier, boosts collagen synthesis, and delivers moisture to the lower layers of the dermis — not just the surface.
How does Marula Oil compare to Argan, Rosehip, and Jojoba oils?
Each oil occupies a distinct position. Argan is rich in Vitamin E but less penetrating. Rosehip is high in Vitamin A and linoleic acid — excellent for pigmentation but more volatile. Jojoba most closely mimics sebum and is highly balancing. Marula is uniquely positioned: the highest Oleic Acid concentration of any luxury face oil, the lightest molecular weight for rapid absorption, and exceptional stability — it resists oxidation far longer than Rosehip or Argan, meaning it remains potent from first drop to last.
What is biodynamic Marula Oil?
Biodynamic refers to a holistic approach to cultivation and harvesting that works in alignment with natural cycles — no synthetic inputs, no disruption of the surrounding ecosystem. African Botanics' Marula is sourced from wild-growing biodynamic trees, meaning the trees themselves are unmanaged by human cultivation. The result is an oil that reflects the full nutritional intelligence of the plant in its natural state — something commercially farmed Marula cannot replicate.
Is Pure Marula Oil safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Yes, it is safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding and is one of the most recommended single-ingredient face oils for this period, given its gentle yet deeply nourishing profile.
How do I use Pure Marula Oil?
Morning and evening. Warm 5–8 drops in the palms of your hands and press gently into cleansed, slightly damp skin across face, neck, and décolletage. Applying to damp skin seals in moisture most effectively. Can also be blended with moisturizer or foundation for added nourishment. Use as the final step before SPF in the morning.
Can I use Pure Marula Oil with other African Botanics products?
Yes — it layers seamlessly across the full range. For optimal results, apply after the Infusion Essence and any serums or creams.
Is it vegan and cruelty-free?
Yes. 100% vegan, cruelty-free, and responsibly sourced. Extracted from wild-growing Marula trees with full respect for the surrounding ecosystem and the communities that harvest them.
How long does it last?
With twice-daily use of 5–8 drops, a 30ml bottle typically lasts 2–3 months. Marula Oil is exceptionally stable — it resists oxidation significantly longer than most botanical oils, meaning it remains potent and effective through to the final drop.
What is the difference between Pure Marula Oil and Neroli Infused Marula Oil?
Both begin with the same single-origin, cold-pressed, wild-grown South African Marula Oil as their base — the difference is in what each is designed to do beyond deep nourishment.
Pure Marula Oil is the purest expression of the ingredient itself. One single active, nothing added. It is the choice for skin that needs intensive barrier repair, deep hydration, and soothing — particularly reactive, sensitised, environmentally stressed, or pregnant skin that benefits from a completely clean, uncompounded formula.
Neroli Infused Marula Oil goes further. The Marula base is infused with Neroli blossoms through traditional enfleurage — macerating precious white flowers in the oil for weeks to extract their full bioactive profile. Neroli adds visible pore minimization, brightening, targeted redness reduction, and protection against oxidative damage from pollution. The result is a more complex, active formula designed for skin that wants nourishment and visible correction simultaneously.
I am so impressed with this pure marula oil. I use it twice daily and find it very healing. It smells botanical in a good way and the scent drifts away quickly, which I like. It also lasts a good while.
Great quality and great feeling!
I like to use this in the a.m. as a first wash. I know it's supposed to break down make-up in the evenings (and I've done this too!) but it's also great in the morning. I feel revitalized after I use it so love in the morning when I shower.
